View Full Version : Gedmatch result of a Thai Australian. He looks pretty Caucasoid admixed

He is an Australian of Thai/Siamese descent. Don't know where in Thailand his family came from.

His pics: He look much more Caucasoid admixed than what his DNA results indicated. Maybe he has some more West Eurasian than what is shown in his autosomal tests?

HarappaWorld: He score around 10% West Eurasian ancestry here (some more Caucasoid admix could be hiding in the South Indian component?) What's noteworthy is that he has only 9% South Indian while most other SE Asians score higher than that. It makes me speculate that all of his South Indian signal is actually South Asian AASI/mostly AASI admixture rather than ancient Negrito/AASI-related affinity that a lot of SE Asians have. Im pondering whether his Indian ancestry is from Northwest South Asia where locals are less AASI admixed?

Furthermore, Harappa models him as mostly Dai/Kinh (another term for Viet)+almost 20% South Asian ancestry. Based on his name, he is definitely Thai. However the fact that he seems Dai/Kinh-like, could indicate that he is either from Northern part of Isaan/Northeast or Northern parts of Thailand. This is because Northern Isaan and Northern Thai/Kham Mueang people are genetically closer to Dai/Vietnamese compared to other Thai/Siamese.

Dodecad K12b: It looks like he is approximately 78% Mongoloid/East Eurasian. Also he seem to score around 10% West Eurasian here (with some more could be hidden in the South Asian component). Interestingly, his South Asian also seem to slightly increase compared to HarappaWorld. It looks like his South Asian affinity could be actual Indian AASI-related ancestry with possibly some hidden West Eurasian admix as well.

It also models him as mostly Kinh Vietnam+around 21-23% South Asian contribution. So it looks like he could be from Northern Isaan or Northern parts of Thailand. Also interesting, he can also be modelled as Dai/Lahu+Burmese or Cambodian+Tu (a Mongolic group from China).

MDLP K23b: He seem to be close to 80% Mongoloid here(SE Asian+Austronesian+Tungus Altaic+East Siberian). Here his West Eurasian ancestry decrease but I feel it is being absorbed by his South Indian component.

The closest pop to him are Thai, Temuan, Cambodian unlike the other two calcs which show Vietnamese, Lahu to be closest to him. Also the mixed mode oracle for him in this calc is peculiar; it shows him as a mix of mostly Thai/Cambodian/Htin (an Austroasiatic tribe from Thailand)+various Central Asians like Hazara, Tajik, Uzbek, Turkmen, etc. On the contrary, he can also be modelled as predominantly Viet/Tai_Lue/Yong (the latter groups are Tai-Krdai speaking groups who live in Southern China, Northern parts of Indochina (including Thailand))+ 16-18% Marwadi_Middle_caste, which is a South Asian group.

What are you thoughts? Is this a case of phenotype not equal to genotype? Does he look much more Caucasoid than what his DNA results indicated?

Here is my nMonte model of his HarappaWorld result: He is around 75% East Asian. 12% Bonda (use as an AASI substitute) and 13% Western Eurasian. My assumption seems to be correct. He is 3% more West Eurasian than what he score on HarappaWorld (without using nMonte) which is around 10%. Although the Brahui have minor AASI, so he could be slightly less Western-shifted. Looks like the South Indian component really hide some of his Western affinity.

Bonda seems to work very well as a proxy since they are predominantly Eastern Eurasian (AASI makes up the majority of their DNA follow by heavy East Asian ancestry). Though since the Bonda sample in HarappaWorld might also contain very minor Western-related affinity (approximately 6-10% based on Global Nmonte runner modeling), so once again, OP could have around 13-14% West Eurasian ancestry. The only way to know how much Western Eurasian he really has is to run his genomes through Global 25 nMonte Runner.

Also it looks like he has close to 20% Han Chinese ancestry. This could be the reason he was modelled as mostly Kinh (Vietnamese) in mixed mode oracle as Viets have Southern Chinese-like admixture and are also genetically close to the Dai (they don't have Han-like admix), who are presumably the forefathers of Thai people

Here is an nMonte model of his Dodecad World9 result:OP is approximately 74% East Asian (some more East Asian could be absorbed by the Juang since they have significant SE Asian ancestry), 13% Juang (use as an AASI proxy) and 13% West Eurasian, which is 3% more Western ancestry than what his regular World9 (without utilizing nMonte) shows (at 10%). Juang, like the Bonda, works very well as an AASI proxy. But he could be closer to 14% Caucasian as Juang could contain very minor Western affinity (once again, basing this on the 6-10% Western-related admix the Juang score on Global 25). Also he seem to be around 1/4 Chinese based on this model.

To investigate whether the Juang is absorbing his East Asian ancestry, I decide to replace the former with the Paniya. Now the OP's East Asian ancestry increase roughly to 78% while his AASI-related ancestry (represented by the Paniya) decreased to 10%. Thus, we can deduce that utilizing the Juang, decrease his East Asian affinity by 4%. Meanwhile, his Western Eurasian ancestry remains in similar amount at 12%. But since the Paniya have Western genetic affinity, his actual Western Eurasian ancestry could rise to 13-15% if simulated AASI/actual AASI samples are applied. Reiterating my point, it would be absolutely fabulous if OP's autosomal DNA can be run through Poi's Global 25 nMonte Runner.

Here is an nMonte run of his Dodecad K12b result:He is around 73% East Asian (it has been suggested by the previous nMonte model using the Paniya that the Juang absorbs some East Asian), 14.5% Juang (still applied them as they have much much less Western affinity than the Paniya) and close to 13% Western Eurasian. Makrani is used instead here of Brahui as the latter seem to decrease the OP's West Eurasian ancestry (at least in Dodecad K12b compared to other calcs like World9 and Harappa) for some peculiar reason (maybe it is because the Brahui have a bit more AASI than Makrani). If we run him through Global 25 nMonte Runner, his Western Eurasian ancestry could increase with simulated AASI genomes. He is also part Han Chinese (21%) like the other models suggested.
