Londoners continued to suffer in stifling heats today as Tube users (top right at Chancery Lance station) were faced with temperatures of 107F this evening as many struggled to cope in the capital. The temperatures were even too hot for cattle as much as the UK roasted in 97F (36C) heat in the grips of a searing Saharan heatwave that has melted roads and threatens to buckle train tracks. But the worst is yet to come tomorrow when the UK faces its hottest day on record, which has prompted many to take to social media, apprehensive as to how they will get through the next 24 hours. People made the most of the weather today and took to the beach in Scarborough, with some even taking a dip in the river in the Bath while others enjoyed the sandy beaches of Dorset.

Gritters could be brought out of hibernation as roads 'melt like chocolate'
Gritters could be brought out during the heatwave as high temperatures cause roads to 'melt like chocolate'.
The vehicles, a more common sight in winter, will be called on to keep traffic moving, motoring experts say.
Drivers are warned to take extra care on the roads with surfaces likely to soften and bubble in extreme heat.
Rod Dennis from the RAC said: 'The sweltering heat is going to inevitably lead to some softer road surfaces over the next few days.
'If you see some blacker patches of road or pavement, that's how you can tell it's starting to melt.
'It also means that drivers might start to see something that they'd normally only associate with the depths of winter - gritting trucks. Salt can help improve the grip on roads that are starting melt.'
