I did an autosomnal DNA test with 23andMe and it tells you what you Y-DNA haplogroup is. Is it still worth it to do a Y-DNA test with Family Tree DNA? What are the advantages to this?

If you want to know your subclade and your deep paternal origin then yes. Y-67 is what I did and it’s good enough for a basic subclade prediction; the site itself will only give you str values but the I2a project did a subclade for me.. Big y is obvs the best if you can afford. What’s ur y Dna?

According to 23andMe it's R-U106 / R1b1b2a1a. My dad is of French-Canadian descent so that's rather typical, I think

R1b is the majority but most are r1b l21 or r1b u152. R1b u106 is Germanic and uncommon outside of east France. I suggest y-67 then joining this project they’ll help you out. https://www.familytreedna.com/groups/r-1b/about
