View Full Version : What to expect from Y37 compared to my 23andMe?

So, I had already done a 23andMe test but now I've also ordered an AncestryDNA test and FTDNA's Y37 test. Since I've already got my YDNA haplogroup from 23andMe im curious as to what I can learn from my Y37 test, especially when it comes to predicted haplogroups

My estimated haplogroup according to 23andMe is R-U106, does FTDNA go that deep or should I expect a simple prediction of R-M269?

I'm rather excited to see what more I can learn from this

I didn't know that ftdna still had Y37 test available. You'll get matches that may be close cousins, you may know your subclade, you may etc. You'll need to join their various R1b and /or surname groups. Also ask admins from those groups as to what they think about your marker result.

So overall, 23andMe's haplogroup estimate is probably more accurate?

Not exactly. 23andme uses snps to determine your haplogroup but it's not a deep enough test for a result set in stone. They don't use markers for example. You may, or probably will, get a match that has done 111 markers and match him at 37. Therefore you're most likely his subclade. Like I said, wait for your test to be done and ask admins in various groups that you join after. Ftdna's Big Y tests for snps but that's the Godzilla of all ydna tests.

idk why like 23andme doesn't buy ftdna would be a lot easier
