The way Bulgarian economy rose in the early-to-mid 2000s (2001 up to 2006/early 2007) was tremendous.

Then things got worse, not only in economical terms, but Bulgarian culture (or what is left of it) started deteriorating. By the late 2000s the amount of dumb reality shows steadily increased.

Chalga music (a.k.a pop-folk), which in 2003-2005 incorporated some dance/pop influences from the west shifted backwards, to Turkish-sounding melodies and instruments and chalga songs now sound eerily similar to the low-quality chalga of the 90's. Even lyrics got worse - in 2001-2005 singers generally sang about love, being left alone, etc. while now they sing about getting drunk in discos, doing sex and luxury, and often use almost profane language in the same vain they did in the 1990's. In 2005-6, these singers started attending every TV talk show possible, which contributes to their over-saturation, while in the early 2000s they rarely got there.

In 2001-2005, the Turkish minority was generally calm and kept quiet, while beginning in 2005, they (or more precisely the leaders of the Turkish party DPS) started getting too tensed and doing inappropriate comments in order to tease the non-Muslim Bulgarians.

Somebody suggested this song would be suitable for the topic:
Can't Forget You (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlcGITW7Skk)
I agree, the singer sings "Sweet memory please, come back to me don't you know that I can't forget you..."
