I'm currently waiting for My results from Ancestry, but I did a DNA test for 23andMe came back with

75% sub-saharan
16.3 Great Britain/Irish
3.0 Spanish & Portuguese
1.1 French & German
1.4 Native American.
0.5 Scandanavian

What I find surprising is that I have a few matches, 4th cousins who are from Arecibo, Puerto Rico and some are living in Ponce, Puerto Rico with a common surname Serrano Y Rodriguez. I researched one of them on Ancestry and took a look at her tree and I was blown away by the amount of people i'm possibly related to. Could this mean one of my parents have a Hispanic background?

No, it means these particular Puerto Ricans have strong African ancestry.

Then he'd also get Africans in Africa as cousin matches. This implies a closer relationship. OP might descend from a Caribbean black.

This is a very important detail. And suggests that the connection is from the Caribbean. You might have ancestry from Trinidad.
