View Full Version : Some Sardinians from Province of South

These people are not directly related to my Sardinian ancestors, but they all have the same family names as my Sardinian ancestors on the side of my maternal grandfather's paternal and maternal grandparents. These are pictures of people that I can trace the genealogy, so I avoid posting pictures of people with dubious origins (having a South Italian great-grandfather or a South Italian grandfather or other origin, like Northern Italy, etc). Just native to their place.

Province of South Sardinia, they live between Iglesias, Monserrato, Cagliari, Sant'Antioco, Gonnosfanadiga... all around this area.

Many appear to have negative canthal tilt for some reason.

Some interesting eye folds in this sample

In France, it is called "almond eyes" (yeux amandes): my maternal grandfather had the same types of eyes that you describe; his ancestors came from Iglesias on his father's side.
On the side of the parents of his maternal grandfather (born in Pauli Pini - Monserrato ; 9042): Monserrato
On the side of the parents of his maternal grandmother (born in Carloforte - 9014): Sant'Antioco.

I do not see the difference between Alpinid and pseudo "Berid". I should look at the measurements of a type "Berid", because I have never found anything about their measurements (even approximate) of a type "berid" or "paleo-something" (i don't talk about photos, I talk about measurements, metric data, craniometry).

But other than that, I guess you're close to reality.

Thanks for your comment.

Berid(or Paleo-Sardinian) is a mix of Cromagnid, Alpine and Atlanto-Med. I recommend taking a look on this thread:

But are there measurements posted on this topic? As for example this kind of (my) measurements taken by an anthropological caliper; You can read here that my measurements are more related to one type than to others. I would like to see the same page for these so-called "berid" or "paleo-Sardinian" types instead of just posting pictures of people who are not alike and whose measurements are not known:

Because of what I could read; "berid" seem a North African or Berber-related type, while Sardinians (mostly, I do not mean mixed ones) are not genetically related to these populations.

The only examples given to me are pictures of people who seem to be nothing alike: some look North African, Arab, mulatto, others simply European "alpines", etc. I do not see any consistency and I am sure that the measurements of these different individuals would not even be similar.

But thanks for the link.

Interesting

They look like typical "white" Med people, alot of them can easily pass as Greek Aegean Islanders too

But they have also kind of their own distinct looks,no doubt

Measurements of berid, metrically?

Weird fake type.

Seem to be just alpin type.

Whatever, thanks for your comment.

Many elder people had this kind of badass look, they were hard working people since childhood, spending most of their time working outdoor under the sun/cold/rain

Thanks to you !

I would soon have a photo and the registration number (with physical description, including color of eyes and hair, and other) military Enrico Manca, the maternal grandfather of my maternal grandfather. And a picture of the wife of Enrico Manca.

Interestingly, San Pietro Island individuals (Carloforte town) are different than the rest of South Sardinia:
