They look pretty homogeneous overall.

Basically Nordids(Keltic, Hallstatt and Corded), Cromagnids(Brünns, Borrebies and Faelids) and mixes of those(resulting in Tronder, Anglo-Saxon and Kelto-Brünn types). I also see Atlanto-Mediterranean influence here and there resulting in Atlantid and Paleo-Atlantid phenotypes in some of them.

Obvious the Irish are a very light people but any given person would be at their lightest in Ireland due to lack of sun exposure. I would be interested to see how these same people would look in a more sunny climate like Australia, California, Florida, Southern Europe, etc. I think living in Ireland accentuates the lightness.

Irish people here tend to avoid the sun if they have any sense. My daughter is very freckly and despite living here all her life gets sunburned very quickly. My mother got skin cancer that she had to get burned off regularly and she never even went in the sun much. She was always extremely careful and never even got a sunburn but still couldn't avoid skin cancer. My father had better tanning ability though but for some Irish people the sun is not a friend. :) Australia does have the highest skin cancer rates in the world.

I think some people take it overboard in the sun and that is where the skin cancer comes in. I've known a certain contingent of freckled redheads that really can't tan at all but I think most Irish or light skinned people can achieve a mild tan if they wear sunscreen and take the sun in small intervals. When I was 19 I got a bad burn on my shoulders while at the beach that took a couple months to fully heal. It was a good lesson but could have done permanent damage for all I know. Apologies for getting off topic.

My mother had the type of skin that would never tan. My daughter is the same and it is obvious looking at her that getting too much sun would be suicidal. I have very fair skin myself and I've never had a successful tan despite trying. I got so badly burned when I was 14 that I couldn't walk for a week. That's not an exaggeration either. I got blisters all over my legs and could not bend. It was really bad. I now think it is mad for people to sunbake or not take precautions in the sun. It is in fact deadly and pointless. It's most probably better for people to use fake tan is they want that look so badly.

Ireland is very homogenous. That's why it makes me laugh when these pigmentation maps are posted showing parts of Ireland as Med-like, with other parts North Germanic-like. The same is true for Britain, to a lesser extent.

I fully agree. I find these maps totally bizarre. Glad someone else who is familiar with the population has said this also.

yeah, gonna say that is a real weakness. my father who really takes after his 100% irish dad can not tan at all. just nothing happens except he burns. i really try to stay out of the sun as much as i can.

worst burn i can remember was about 17 or so and on a cool beach, only ~15 degrees or so. so, i think i didnt put sunscreen on. got absolutely deeply burned all over
