Very interesting Brazilian results with pics

Guy from Southeast Brazil. I have noted that some Brazilians from Southeast sometimes score high amounts of European but with a heavy African contribution instead of just African + Amerindian.

His autosomal DNA in the commercial test was like 67% European, 13% North African, 15% SSA, 5% Amerindian, 2% Jewish.

In GEDmatch his Sub-Saharan increases by 3-4% points. Does it mean that part of it came through his Southern European ancestors? He has interesting results, around 80% Euro but with heavy SSA admixture.

Do you have an explanation of why the SSA admixture increases in GEDmatch when compared to commercial tests? I know another guy that iss only 9.% SSA in 23andme, MyHeritage and Ancestry, but he got almost 15% in some GEDmatch calculators (he has interesting results too, almost no Amerindian, only European and SSA).

I have the impression GEDmatch is less useful for New Worlders with any degree of mixing than to Old Worlders or fully European New Worlders. Because many times the guy wants to know his exact proportions of recent ancestry (i.e. Portuguese, Sub-Saharan, Amerindian etc,) and GEDmatch calculators can be confusing for people with more than 5% of recent non-European blood. Do you agree?

I know a guy that can range from 82% Caucasoid to 90% because of that. In the commercial tests he got 90% European + Middle Eastern, but GEDmatch gave him tons of Sub-Saharan.

You know something i have noticed in this site is that because of being less used to, brazilians are much better at spotting native american traits and argentines are much better at spotting SSA traits. For example to you this guy looks fully portuguese but i see some SSA traits as he has features i dont see here. In the other hand you probably spot castizos better than i do.

Well, commercial tests cover only the most recent ancestry - from 200-500 years or so. Some components/clusters include more than one element, for example minor amounts of African and Siberian in the Iberian and Finnish components, respectively. North Africans don't get 20% SSA on 23andme for this reason.

Yeah, that's why it's not that useful to use GEDmatch to discover your recent ancestry when you're New Worlder. This guy for example is probably an Octoroon in the common definition (around 1/8 Black African) but since the Iberian and North African component both ''hide'' some SSA he increases a lot on GEDmatch, around 3-4%. It may be futile for an Old Worlder, but for a New Worlder the more important is to know who your European and African ancestors were at the time they arrived in your country, not if they had SSA, Finnish or Siberian admixture.

Commercial tests are better for New Worlders in that sense.
