I believe that the key point for people with a duty of confidentiality is to avoid giving the impression that they are talkative and have their own need to share.

Only then does the question arise for the layperson as to whether the legally required confidentiality is being observed. Naturally, the layman cannot practically control this latter question himself.

As for the comparison of law and medical cases I assume no essential difference in that specificy topic. You may be right as for the whole case story but as for law cases you would in a professional exchange regularly just share relevant fractions of it while in medical cases the "whole story" (the history) may be more relevant.

I believe that the key point for people with a duty of confidentiality is to avoid giving the impression that they are talkative and have their own need to share.

Only then does the question arise for the layperson as to whether the legally required confidentiality is being observed. Naturally, the layman cannot practically control this latter question himself.

As for the comparison of law and medical cases I assume no essential difference in that specificy topic. You may be right as for the whole case story but as for law cases you would in a professional exchange regularly just share relevant fractions of it while in medical cases the "whole story" (the history) may be more relevant.
