The main reason I opened this thread is because a lot of people claim that Austrians and other Central Europeans look roughly 50/50 between Scandinavians and Southern Europeans, which is something I dispute.

Perhaps if the comparison had been with Croats instead of Portuguese it'd be 50/50. However, I still think that any overlap even with Central Europe dissipates somewhat from Serbia and Central Italy southwards (and eastwards).

Swedes. And, like most Central Euros, Austrians have a rather weak Med component.
Their non-Northern (read non-Nordid and non-CM) phenotypes are more often Dinaric or Alpine in general.
Between Sweden and Serbia would be more accurate for them. The French, on the other hand, are a better example of something, more or less, in the middle of Portugal and Sweden.
