Hello all,

Is everyone okay over there?

The news about the earthquake are heartbreaking, I hope there won't be any more victims :(

Thank you! Greece has already sent rescue teams and Greek Foreign Minister was in Tirana today.

Italy, Greece and Romania were the first responders, coincidentally my likely matches on 23andme...

There was another quake today. A 5.6 magnitude. Croatia and surprisingly even Serbia are among rescue teams.

"Teams from Italy, Greece, Romania, France, Switzerland, Turkey, Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Israel are helping with the search efforts.

The largest deployment has come from the Kosovo Security Forces (KSF)."

Is your family okay? I am reading we sent rescue dogs trained to find survivors under ruins, but unfortunately they found dead people too :(

Yes , and I be heard they have rescued 3 people already.

We also had 6.1 today near Crete but was deep , so not really any damage .

It is so sad what happened

My family was fortunately safe, thank you for asking. Others not so much sadly. They are located further northeast closer to the border with North Macedonia. I think they were outside of the affected areas.

Apparently these areas are located over small tectonic fault lines. The coasts especially. Durres itself had recorded major earthquakes back in the 1200s that devastated the area.

Much thanks from our neighboors. Albanians most of the time keep wanking on Western countries but it was our Balkan neighboors who were the first to send help. Greece, Montenegro, Serbia were the first to help. Romania sent alot of help and the Romanian Orthodox Church organized a fundraiser as well.
Other Albanians from Kosovo, North Macedonia also sent and still sending lot of help.

Many parts of the Balkans runs along fault lines. i wouldn't be surprised if tremors continue throughout. Queen B mentioned Crete had one but too deep in the earth to cause any surface level damage. God willing they do not continue or spread

Most prone country to natural disasters in Europe is actually Albania.

When earthquakes register at 6.4 then aftershock quakes ordinarily occur.

I don't know what is the general consensus about the safety of the affected areas but here on a program on greek public tv channel a seismologist said that people with damaged houses (no matter the severity) in the area of Durres should NOT return to them for at least 3 months.

Why wouldn't? Albania and Serbia have normal political relation, that is common cooperation in situations like this.
