I was browsing the anthropology groups on facebook. Apparently J.R.R. Tolkein(I assume through testing a family member) was R1a-Z280>Z92>YP270>YP350. It is of course listed in his wiki bio that his male ancestor that migrated to England was of East Prussian descent.

Pretty cool to be related to my favorite story teller. Albeit like 5000 years ago lmao.

I was among the first people to see the results and I am in contact with a researcher who made it possible. We will eventually get a grandson of a Tolkien himself to test (but even if he decides not to, this result we have is pretty legitimate).
Though YP350 is doubtful without SNP test, YP270 is more than certain: https://www.yfull.com/tree/R-YP270/
It looks like Tolkiens were a village mayors (schultz/sołtys) bearing an Old Prussian ancestry on their direct paternal line, at some point they left their place and migrated to Danzig (Gdańsk). One of the Tolkien brothers left Danzig, possibly afraid of Prussian expansion into the city domain and made it to England).

Interesting the same subclade as Szypulski and Ermiś from FTDNA Projects:
- Szypulski oldest known ancestor born in 1738 in Szypułki-Zaskórki (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Szypu%C5%82ki-Zask%C3%B3rki), R1a-Z280>Z92>Z685>YP270>YP351>Y9081>YP350
- Ermiś oldest known ancestor born in 1822 in Grunwald (near Szczytno (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Szczytno_County)), R1a-Z92>Z685>YP270>YP351>Y9081>YP350

And Sklodowski who descends from an Old Prussian named Sklodo, that's the paternal line of Maria Skłodowska-Curie.
But as I said, we can't say whether Tolkiens are YP350 with certainty. This line needs more testing.

True. I honestly never knew he was of Prussian descent. Finding out his haplo I looked up his bio. Pretty interesting. He is probably unrivaled in story telling. Created his own Elvish language based off Finnish if I am not mistaken.

Well this family tree says his ancestor was Old Prussian:

Probable area where his lineage originated from:

The surname has Old Prussian etymology too (*Talkkāims).

Interesting. But wasn’t he only around 1/8 Prussian in terms of ancestry?
