Coon's map shows Bavaria darker than Austria, but this Ranke map shows Austria darker

What's interesting in this map is the blondism of Haute-Savoie, French Romandy.

It's what I observed because I live there, there are a lot of blondes amongst ethnic "savoisians". In my french family as well. Percentages higher than in Northern France even, surely.

It's very strange I can't explain that, maybe environmental adaptation but if it was the case why other Alpine or mountainous areas don't show the same phenomenon ? Maybe there's some germanic influence but again S.Germans seems to be a bit more german than S.French and they are still less blondes according to this.

It's the old gallic race. (Allobroges). Savoie is northern France by its pigmentation.

By features Alpine predominate with also some Dinaric but I agree that by pigmentation (and also genetics) Haute-Savoie and parts of Savoie is Northern France.

Auvergnats that are at the same latitude and they are much more "Med" and leaning toward Iberians, I guess that it has to do strongly with genetics.

Alpine isn't uniform, some versions are blonder than others and vice versa.

Austrians are South Germans and these "who are lighter" threads are autistic and pointless.

They are more slavic influenced.

They are more slavic influenced.

They're ethnic Germans regardless.

They're ethnic Germans regardless.

But their slavic element probably darkened them in comparison to south german.

Irrelevant. Then take the question as Who is blonder South Germans that live in Austria or those that live in South Germany? And besides Austrians don't consider themselves Germans since WW2.

These are very similar populations, so I’d say they are about the same ( Equal!).
