Yeah, according to Wikipedia, the yearly average temperature of Bashkortostan ranges from between +0.3°C to +2.8°C depending on the region, and the average January temperature is -16°C. It's another reason why Bashkirs can be considered Northern Europeans. Also Ufa (the capital of Bashkortostan) is at about the same latitude as Vilnius.

Birches grow really far north too. When I made the threads for photos from the Kanin Peninsula and the Mezen region (which are on both sides of the Arctic circle), I thought that some photos were not taken there because there were birch trees in the background, but birches occasionally grow even there (as indicated by the blue dots):

Yeah, it's nice because it includes rivers, and because it includes lines for latitude and longitude. Therefore you can tell that Ufa (which is along the Belaya River at latitude 54.7) is in the "temperate continental" zone. However other parts of Bashkortostan are part of the "temperate continental steppic" or "temperate xeric steppic" zone.

You can also tell that Izhevsk and Yoshkar Ola are a bit south of the boreal zone, similar to how Oslo, Helsinki, and Saint Petersburg are all at the border of the boreal zone. Stockholm and Moscow are further south from the border of the boreal zone.
