Find out what happened when 900 Japanese soldiers, trapped by a British landing on Ramree Island, Burma in 1945, tried to retreat through 10 miles of mangrove swamps. They faced an enemy as old as the dinosaurs and just as fierce.

It was certainly a rare event due to the terrible conditions of the soldiers, as the video says many were sick or wounded and half starved. In normal conditions I cannot believe that 900 trained Japanese soldiers armed with rifles and machine guns could not defend themselves from crocs. Indeed I remember I read long ago about a similar episode occurring in New Guinea but maybe I'm just confusing the two events.

I almost feel sorry for them. Almost.
