Do you also think it is time to break all remaining ties with the Crown?

What do you mean by "the system"? Do you mean our relationship with the Motherland and our system of govt. specifically? If that's the case, then I think ties with the Motherland should be closer in various ways. I also think that the flag should not be changed.

Don't get me wrong, I don't like the way things are going in Britain and I'd hate to see Australia be dragged down the same path, so I do have some reservations about close ties with Britain. Nevertheless, I can't see any other way for us to retain our identity (that has been so under threat since the 1970's) and prevent ourselves from becoming a part of Asia. I'm all for respecting and remembering our British Isles forefathers... many of them would roll over in their graves if they could see what is becoming of the country they worked so hard to forge and that they fought and died for.

Long live the Queen. We still swear our loyalties to the Queen or future King when we sign the dotted line to serve...

From the distance and the almost absolute ignorance about antipodes, I wonder what kind of spineless morons or foreign (to the British core of Australia and New Zealand) incrustations stand against splitting the historical ties with the UK.

From the distance and the almost absolute ignorance about antipodes, I wonder what kind of spineless morons or foreign (to the British core of Australia and New Zealand) incrustations stand against splitting the historical ties with the UK. :confused:As you've probably guessed, it overwhelmingly tends to be people of non-British and non-Irish descent in Australia that advocate and support Australia splitting ties with Britain. (Most Australians of Brit Isles descent, who've been here for more than a couple of generations, are a mix of English, Irish, Scottish and/or Welsh... that's why I include those of Irish descent generally supporting Aus/Brit ties. Most newly arrived Irish do not.)

Of course, Australia's bond with Britain alienates those here who are not of British Isles descent.

Not surprisingly, these days I've noticed that newly arrived Muslims tend to be the most vehement supporters of republicanism in Australia.

I'm thinking on some innovative methods (political and bloodless though not preciselly democratic) to help you overcome that nasty issue regarding minorities-becoming-majorities. If they dont like them they can always come back the shitholes they came from. Free shipping first class, of course. :D

Australia should really change the flag. Not a matter of politics, but of mere aesthetics. Those Southern Crosses look really nice.

What about this? :D

Same methods would be really suitable for Catalonia also.

BTW I cant bear with marsupials. Specially Tasmanian devils, I would not hesitate to kill them all, if I ever had the chance. :D

Ps. I promise Im not at the back of their letal face tumorations. :D

Just as they do in Britain, Labour tells us they're good, hard working immigrants - the reality is they're lazy, troublesome immigrants who try and change everything even though they're a minority (around 5%) and yet think the rest of us should live by their rule and as they do!

It's nice, but not as good as the one I propose Spain adopts. :D

Simply I cant help for considering you a kind of authorized representative of Catalonia. :D

Er... and what does it have to do with the thread?

I didn't understand your first reply. But this one is even weirder. :p

Anyway my flag wins all of yours here in antiquity -except for the Danish one-, so no change allowed. :D

A nicer design for the New Zealand one.

Indeed substituting those bizarre hideous animals by foxes or other European little carnivores (Im obviously missing their English names) would constitute a nice symbolic action (home sweet home). :D

CA: just an unoffensive digression about the land were I incidentaly am living in. :D

It's probably that foxes or cats will behave like pussies on the sole horrisunous presence of Tasmanian devils. I would do so...and thinking all the people around the world being scared by innocent mouses.

Although I would landed first at Comodo in order to exterminate their famous "dragons" (they dont ever deserve this mitical name)...I hope natives dont mind so much to be deprived from a fair (I pressume) source of tourism. :D

Pd. BTW, Mary, had you ever seen by your own eyes such creatures?

We use them for hunting rabbits and birds, maybe you mean Lynx or Wolf - what type of animal, cat, dog or other?

Oh, Spanish huron. Pretty little carnivore. But, are they stronger and valiant enough to kill that crappy terrifying marsupials?

No, we shouldn't change our flag and we shouldn't break our ties with the British monarchy. We are Colonial countries and we are better of to stay that way then attempt some sort of republic. Our historical ties are what makes us as far as I am concerned, any republic will be a mish-mash of Settlers, Indigenous people, and recent arrivals (asylum seekers or Asian immigrants.) Too many countries view the Pacific simply as a natural resource and do not have enough concern for the nations and their people. If anything we need to strengthen the historical ties that we have to avoid becoming a 'commodity'.

Looks like a Polecat to me unless it is some animal we haven't got here (islands have their drawbacks)

Polecat

Or it could be the domesticated version, a ferret:

Sorry, I forgot to answer this question! :p Yes, I have seen most, but some (that aren't native to my area of Australia) I've only seen in wildlife parks or zoos. :)

Don't worry, the top predator in Britain is humans now. We had Lynxes, bears and wolfs once but they were competition and so humans had to get rid of them.
There is a remote possibility they might be reintroduced to the Scottish Highlands one day, but many object to it (I think reintroducing them to a large, under-populated Scottish island would be a good compromise).
I doubt we'd ever see these back in England.

Top predators in Britain: Humans, Foxes, American Mink (introduced) Golden Eagle, Pine Martens, White Tailed Eagle, Polecat.

Britain is a nation of bird watchers and traditionally many MP's were twitchers, you notice that when you look into conservation laws, hence many predators aren't popular in the eyes of the law. :rolleyes2:

Lol, this is becoming the Aussie wildlife thread. Only one poisonous snake in England and it's not very common or deadly if you get to a hospital, lucky us. :thumb001:
