This one is interesting. Scored 90% European, 7% SSA and 0.8% Amerindian in 23andme (2% unassigned), but got more SSA in GEDmatch. Said he doesn't know exactly his background.

Gedmatch always increases SSA, although it didn't increase it that much for me (from 2.8 to 3.4 K16). I think it adds the native Iberian to it. I don't know how accurate that is. As for the rest, I think it's pretty obvious that he's mostly colonial Portuguese.

It happens because part of the North African in Iberians is read as SSA.

I think he also has some Italian in the admixture, but probably predominantly Portuguese. Hard to know without knowing his genealogy (he just dropped the results there).

If he does have Italian, it would explain why he has such a high East Med compared to others, even me, and I have converso. Have him test some others, to see his Red Sea score. That could ferret out Converso ancestry.

No one knows for sure if it's real or not because all latin american countries had slaves.

For example ftdna gave me 0% sub-saharan and that's impossible because I'm not a recent mestizo of white + amerindian instead multigenerational from centuries all mexicans autosomally are 3% SSA.

And that's what Gedmatch shows on my case.

I bet heīs from Minas or Rio because he hasnīt amerindian (and everywhere in LatAm colonial criollos tend to have more amerindian than SSA, even in the Caribbean and brazilian northeast, except in those mentioned regions and maybe Bahia)

FTDNA gave you 2% SSA, not 0%. It's in the trace results.

He is from Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais, near the border with Rio. It seems he also has 2 Italian great-grandparents from Veneto.
