Dunno if he could pass outside, his face screams Balkans. Maybe in Italy.

I feel the same. Quite a few dudes in Romania look like this guy.

But I'm curious, maybe this look is present in other parts of Southern Europe.

Looks like a pretty good example of Carpathid to me.

Well, Carpathid is a mix of Dinarid and Alpine, and so it kind of fits this guy.
Nonetheless, I think his look is more present in Western Balkans, south of the Danube, than in the actual Carpathians.

Still it remains a relative easy to find face in Romania, like this guy, C. Marica:

^^^ Sure thing. And I'm fine with just Dinarid for op guy as well, that would be my second choice.

Btw, what does Săvul mean? I am familiar with the suffix
-escu but Săvul does not like like a male given name to me.

I'm not 100% certain but I think Săvulescu comes from Sava + suffix escu (letter "l" is used just to connect the 2 parts of the name). Sava is a South Slavic name, probably more popular among Serbs.

That is true. It was my grandfather's name.

I'd guess Dinaric.
