If you’re visiting the Costa Brava and a fan of Game of Thrones, Girona should definitely be on your list of places to visit.

Girona is the capital of the Girona Province in the region of Catalonia. It is located 98 kilometres (61 miles) from Barcelona in the northeast of Spain, near the border with France. Girona is a city of rich historical and cultural heritage, whose historical past is evident in its beautiful buildings and the architectural elements of its streets and squares in the old city centre. The old town stands on a hill along the easternshore of the river Onyar, while the more modern part of town stands on the plains to the west. Eleven
bridges connect the riverbanks along which the row of colourfully painted buildings is reflected in the water.

The cast and crew of HBO’s sword and sorcery epic descended on the city during early September 2015 to film scenes for Season 6.
In Girona filming started on 3rd September and continued at various locations throughout the old town until the 18th.
The locations were used in the series to represent Braavos, as well as parts of King’s Landing and Oldtown.
