The government of Morocco has demanded half of the Alhambra in Granada, Spain. The Alhambra is a palace that was built during the period of Muslim rule in Spain. In a letter to the government of Spain and the council of Andalucia, Morocco's culture minister, Bensalem Himmich, demands that a joint Moroccan-Spanish organisation be set up to manage the Alhambra and that the Moroccan government receive half of the profits accruing from the tourist trade related to it. The Alhambra receives more than 3 million visitors each year.

Himmich claims that Moroccan experts in "Andalucian architecture" would be able to help with the conservation of the palace. He also believes Moroccan participation would do justice to those who created the Alhambra and would "open bridges of cooperation and friendship between our two countries".

The minister insists that Boabdil, the last Muslim king of Granada, would approve of Morocco's involvement, claiming that Boabdil spent his final years in Morocco and that his descendants were Moroccans.

Many Moroccans believe that the ancient monuments of Muslim-ruled Spain rightfully belong to them and that they should either receive ownership of them or appropriate compensation.

Since 2003 the Alhambra's management board has included a representative from the Moroccan government but the latest proposal would go much further.

Lol. The Ramadan and a hot summer probably produce some sort of temporary neuronal shortage.

I guess Europe should create a group too to gain half of the income produced by tourists in those North African towns with a high presence of colonial architecture.

We should also get all the tourist income of Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico, Argentina, etc.

Spain, England, France, Portugal, the USA, Iceland, etc. etc. AND all African states and peoples from Morocco southward to Nigeria should claim all old buildings in Morocco, then, as many of the largest were constructed by slaves captured for the very purpose of carrying out heavy, complex and often LETHAL building work that the Moorish savages could never have managed by themselves.

Actually, anyone who has read how the European slaves were treated there would probably prefer to just nuke the miserable shithole off the face of the Earth. :ohwell:

I wonder if this tourist has any clue how much blood of her potential kin was shed to build the wall she's posing in front of?

... or how a girl like her would have been treated, had she been dragged behind those walls a mere ten or so generations ago... :....

Es una noticia falsa originada en un foro marroquí para dar por culo. Lo que sí es cierto es que tenemos embajadores culturales marroquíes en la Alhambra, participando en las decisiones del monumento, cortesía de la alianza de civilizaciones socialista.

The Moroccan Government has denied ever having done such a claim and they've said that they consider it "a bad taste joke". The news had come on different digital news publications allegedly quoting a Moroccan newspaper.

Some seedy arab hawker trying to make a few pennies for himself.Well, fair is fair and North Africans are not Arabs. I don't think that they are seedy either. At least not the Berbers. They are worse things though.

complex and often LETHAL building work that the Moorish savages could never have managed by themselves. They could not...and they did not.

You are not going to find anywhere in North Africa any building constructions of the style of the Palace of Alhambra and its gardens (Generalife), the Mosque of Cordoba, or the destroyed Palace-City of Medina Azahara (destroyed not by the Christians but by the civil wars that put an end to the Caliphate between 1010 and 1030 AD), at which beauty it's said that the ambassadors of the Byzantines and of the heirs of Charlemagne were amazed.

If you want to see actual Moorish architecture you should look into the Almoravid and Almohad buildings, which were very simple constructions built with a militaristic mind.

But fair is fair and architecture in the Christian kingdoms, or in Europe for that matter, at that time were also simple in comparison, and largely militaristic.

However one may be enamoured of the simplicity of the Romanic architecture, the exuberance and even extravagance at times of other styles such as the Oriental (or the European Baroque, for that matter...although Rococo is too extravagant to swallow it) can be admired.

Why would this be? If that style of architecture originated from North Africa why wouldn't it be found there?

The moorish archictecture of Iberia has many elements which are of European origin (Byzantine, Visigothic, etc) you won't find the same anywhere else. They were designed and build by native iberians, since the vast majority of muslims were just ethnic iberians converted to Islam.

Medina Azahara was built in the 10th century and the style was Oriental, surely influenced by Syrian and Persian styles of the time. Also, it was built with a politico-religious object in mind, as a symbol of the supremacy of Abd al-Rahman III over his North African enemies.

The Alhambra started to be built as a palace-fortress in the 13th century by mandate of Muhammad ibn Yusuf ibn Nasr, the first sultan of the Nasri dynasty, and it's already the syncretism of hispano-muslim style.
