It's not a good calculator for nw europeans. I also have this issue with my results and my family's.

I think its mixed Euros in general who have trouble, and I am not NW European. Mixed with NW, South and (potentially) Jews, so I dont represent any of those groups. I think these datasets and algorithms are outdated.

Yeah, it does seem to pull southeast regardless. My dad also gets half Serbian/Croat despite having no Balkan ancestry.

Is he Central European. Daco Celtic is equivalent to a west German, he's half Irish half Transylvanian and it could be what your result is if you have no actual family history of anyone South or East of Central Europe.

He's mixed, but closest to east Germany on eurogenes k13 (at 9 distance, a bit far). At least the oracle on there gives him more reasonable populations than on mdlp.

Irish do not get any overlap with France with the possibility of Northern French areas like Brittany and Normandy. No I'm half Connacht and half Munster. On these sort of calcs Irish are closer to West Scots (not surprisingly) and North Dutch.

As someone who has looked at Irish genetics for a few years now I would have to disagree. Irish generally plot fairly similarly of course with some individual differences but there is a reason why people from the same ethnicity cluster together.

I speculate that this calculator looks at having DNA similar to Greeks/Sicilians/Jews and looks eastwards when climbing up the ladder to other ethnicities (to Albania, Yugos, Hungarians, Austrians, Germans) rather than westwards.

There is a simpler explanation in that MDLP is optimized for Lithuanians my mentally retarded nigga ! Lithuania is in Eastern Europe , hence, the bias or 'shift'.

I would think that Irish have some French-like admixture possibly some Celtic related ancestry and Norman. Irish though on Gedmatch calculators or G25 don't overlap with French generally. English appear to have more overlap with the French but this is not surprising looking at geographic closeness. Also I think Southern English will have more input from France genetically when more studies come out. You can see this with Cornish people using G25. Irish being a bit more isolated have retained more Bell Beaker genetics. I think Irish have retained more Bell Beaker genetics than any other European population most likely due to their more peripheral location in Europe

I don't think it is actually ancestry but just what my genetics are closest to. The unknowns are whether it is all down to Bell Beaker ancestry or there is actually admixture from some of these populations. I do think all Irish and British populations have admixture from each other and I most likely have some Scots ancestry somewhere down the track. Icelandic is a population that is derived from Scandinavians and Gaels so these island populations are not really a source of ancestry. It is just showing how Irish are just a Northwestern population genetically.
