How is it despite being hundreds of miles apart and separated by ocean they appear to be the same people?

Nw europe is very close genetically, and the groups can often get intertwined in these calculators and gedmatch. If you compare 23andme reports (which I believe are typically very accurate for nw europeans), you can see that they are often successful in differentiating these groups, generally speaking. Irish people will usually score some % of Scandinavian, but will overwhelmingly be assigned areas in the British Isles.
Shared Dutch Bell Beaker ancestry. Also there is Norwegian input in Irish and Irish input in Icelanders and Norwegians. They aren't the same though, but close indeed.
