Considering mtDNA halopgroups, the Sami were in "Spain" during the ice-refugee in the Pirineos as they have (40% of them) a mtDNA halopgroup which is considered native of northern Spain (mtDNA V), so there must be many other genes that are old and shared with them. I think a lot of theories of the past were incorrect. Saamis and Basques are obviously quite different populations. Basques have a lot of Neolithic Farmer and Saami have very little. Saami also are much more Siberian shifted. I would say they definitely don't have a similar origin.

Today's Samis have origins from several places (not only one).

(1998, 2001) have suggested that the spread of haplogroup V in Scandinavia and in eastern Europe is due to its late Pleistocene/early Holocene expansion from a Franco-Cantabrian glacial refugium. Haplogroup V shows high diversity and the presence of pre-V lineages in Iberia and the islands of Croatia (Tolk et al. 2000; Torroni et al. 2001). However, the new data on Volga River basin and Slavic-speaking populations (Bermisheva et al. 2002; Malyarchuk et al. 2002; present study) show that haplogroup V is also well present in eastern Europeans. Furthermore, haplogroup V lineages with HVS-I transitions 16153 and 16298 (fig. 1) that are frequent in the Saami population are much more widespread in eastern than in western Europe (Torroni et al. 2001; Bermisheva et al. 2002; authors' unpublished data). This indicates that haplogroup V might have reached Fennoscandia via central/eastern Europe (see fig. 4A). Such a scenario is indirectly supported by the absence, among the Saami, of the pre-V mtDNAs that are characteristic of southwestern Europeans and northwestern Africans and that are also present in Germans (Torroni et al. 2001).

Who did that? I didn't really notice people doing that. I think people might think they are closer to Saami because of lack of knowledge but the Saami people are outliers and as I've said distant to most populations.

Some populations are closer to Syrians but in the scheme of things they are a distant population to most Europeans. Saami's are very much an outlier population.

I do look on Syrians as being a very distant population to myself which wouldn't be untrue.

I didn't really pick up on it. Basically a lot of these things are geographic but not always as Saami are even distant to Norwegians and Swedes. With Syrians the closer populations are some Greeks and Italians which would be due to some later Middle Eastern contributions possibly during the Roman Empire. I think these questions are just genetic and people are interested in these sort of things. I think most people here are a bit obsessed with genetics. I'm one of those. :)

What can be said ... Syrians have also contributed much much more in negative ways ... lets say 10 000x more than Samis. Causing sufferings to other people lifes. That means something to me.

There are 70 000 Samis today, in the past/history even much much less. What can be ecpected from them?

If we would set Syrians or Greeks here 3000 - 4000 years ago ... they had caused absolutely nothing. Probably not even survived.

But those above were just comments ... in real life I have faced Samis people and never needed to feel any fear. Same can not be said with Syrians (refugees) in Sweden. Weird?

No the Imperial Roman theory can explain the genetics of only some Italian regions.

The Moots paper had very bad conclusions and poor sampling if I had to say. The only thing that I have retained from it it's that there were Central Euro outliers in Central Italy in Middle Ages (not surprising given the central position of Rome) and that Neolithical Romans were similar to Sardinians (nothing too surprising).

I think Imperial Roman era can explain partially Campania and Latium "Middle East" influence because they were very densely populated areas, for others like Sicily, it's not Imperial Era at all. It's much more linked to Phoenicians, Arab era, Byzantines (Levantines or Caucasians), and also Hellenized Anatolians that came here in Antiquity. Maybe even older, as we have no clue about what Elymians were genetically.

But even if you see Iron Age Romans they were already "East Med" shifted so it's much more older than Imperial Romans.

Nothing to do with your comments. I find it more amusing than anything and I was making an observation. Syrians are an easy target because of their recent history despite having a cultural that is, with all due respect, richer and more illustrious than the Saami IMO. I have no doubt that Saami are honest, salt-of-the-earth people, but I don't recall them building a sophisticated culture. I understand what you mean about personal safety issues, but I'm looking at it more big picture.

Nothing to do with your comments. I find it more amusing than anything and I was making an observation. Syrians are an easy target because of their recent history despite having a cultural that is, with all due respect, richer and more illustrious than the Saami IMO. I have no doubt that Saami are honest, salt-of-the-earth people, but I don't recall them building a sophisticated culture. I understand what you mean about personal safety issues, but I'm looking at it more big picture.

This only talks about other pre-V mtDNAs, nothing about really different V mtDNA, which is common in origin. I don´t think it went from the Spanish Pirineos to Scandinavia in direct route, it could have gone through the balkans or central Europe perfectly. But the origin of V is clear since also berebers were in fact old Europeans/old caucasoids that went to live to NorthAfrica and they also used the franco-cantabrian refuge.

And the most V in Spain is in Cantabria, not in the basque region. I am not even cantabrian or basque and I have V halopgroup.

What can be said ... Syrians have also contributed much much more in negative ways ... lets say 10 000x more than Samis. Causing sufferings to other people lifes. That means something to me.

I'm talking about crime and their general treatment of women. I know that don't care either way, but a lot of it has to do with how people behave outside of their own countries. I'm tired of people crying because others don't like them, but whenever they go in large numbers to a certain area, crime skyrockets and general quality of life decreases. Perhaps some general introspection is in order.

I too would rather have a Saami neighbor than a Syrian neighbor, even if the Syrians are nice, the chances of one of their sons growing up and raping one of my daughters is significantly higher with the second group.

The most peaceful lived in the extreme west, places like Oregon or even California, which are areas that are considered very hospitable and pleasant to live. The Navajo and Cherokee were comparatively advanced, and neither were especially very violent.

Well, yeah.
The fotos of Samis you see around are already Samis mixed with local Scandinavians, I imagine that the 25% East Eurasian Samis are not going to look as blonde and light eyed as the mixed ones.

Yes, I'm not Nordicist/Nordicism who tries to say those have been done by Nordics. I'm just one who says that those have been achieved with slaves and bloods of other ethnics/humans ... and suitable environment for humans (as spieces) caused that (western) civilization started in the south not in the snowly cold north. Ok, back to topic. One comment to add: Samis are Christians (today). Mostly protestant (Lutherans) and few of them are Orthodox (in Russia). How they become Christians, tells more brutal unfertile language of us ''Europeans'' ... but lets not go on that off topic now. They just faced that cruelty fate last of ''pagan'' people of Europe.

Samis are often seen as thundra people (like Nenets etc.) but I don't know how well that will fit to them. Their history with reindeers are actually pretty present/new one. They tamed wild reindeer just 300 - 400 years ago (Finland, Sweden, Norway). Before that they lived via fishing and hunting. There are some marks of Samis people in the middle of Finland still at Middle Ages. Of course in any bigger picture they had started to move Northern already a lot earlier ...probably as Finns and Scandinavians pushed them. And as doing that there they have met language which original is not known (today's Samis incl. loandwords ... ones which can not be tracked to any present alive language). So some thinks/believes ... Samis were not the first humans on that area (after Ice Age).

Nothing to do with your comments. I find it more amusing than anything and I was making an observation. Syrians are an easy target because of their recent history despite having a cultural that is, with all due respect, richer and more illustrious than the Saami IMO. I have no doubt that Saami are honest, salt-of-the-earth people, but I don't recall them building a sophisticated culture. I understand what you mean about personal safety issues, but I'm looking at it more big picture.

The religion of Europe for the past, for the past 1,500 years, came from that part of the world. As did its Agriculture, architecture, writing script, mathematics, Metuallurgy etc. The recent history of the Levant is tragic.

They got their light features from Finnic/Uralics as well. They already had high EHG independent of Steppe ancestry, so they would still be light, just more different facial features

I have just realized that "Navajo" in Spanish means something similar to knife: navaja. Maybe it was the Spaniards who saw the Navajos that put them this name because the navajos were used to use knives or swords for attacking them. Maybe this is the reason.
