him - Transylvanian look (Dinaric)

wife - Moldovan look (Gorid)

he also passes more to southwest (Yugoslavia)

she also passes more to the north (Hungary, Slovakia, Ukraine)

I thought mitica was a slur word.

it is the stereotype name for southern Romanians and synonymous to being rude and inconsiderate and also synonymous of Balkanic/being Balkanic, as in Romania, especially by non-Wallachians, all the bad influence/customs is considered to be coming from the Balkans with the Vlachs. Mitica is not used in Moldova region. it's short for Dumitru in Wallachia. in Moldova region of Romania Dumitru is Mitrutz, Mitrel or even Dima. I don't know about Transylvania, I think Dumitru is very rare there.

Here we don't really use diminutives as official forenames.

in Romania it is a thing of the southerners, but it touched Moldova region as well, to a degree. in my family no one has a diminutive as legal name but in my wive's for example they ALL do, which is hilarious (southernmost Moldova)

The guy is actually from Piatra Neamt I think, if that makes any more difference.
Never heard that is a "slur word", the first time I ever hear this.

he probably didn't mean slur but pejorative.

even the DEX mentions it:

MITICÍSM s. n. (fam.) atitudine, comportare, vorbă etc. care denotă superficialitate și neseriozitate.

MITÍCĂ, mitici, s. m. Persoană superficială și neserioasă.

it's the stereotypical Romanian (and moreso, Wallachian) - this is the meaning, not my opinion, I have nothing against Wallachians, I even got a friend from Craiova!

It's a thing on the internet. I've never heard it IRL personally, but it is used to refer to someone who is old fasioned or backward.
This surname doesn't appear to exist in Neamt.

so they're Moldovans, lol, I was thinking they look quite European xD he could almost pass as an Atlanto-Keltic Patrick Dempsey type.

Sf. Dumitru is the patron saint in Bucharest and surroundings, so a ton of people are called Dumitru/Mitica.

It can be used in a demeaning manner but nobody in the South gives a shit.
