This is Stan. I won't say his last name for obvious reasons. He is an American from Wisconsin with primarily Anglo genetics (British Isles+Mild French/German and Scando) and is apparently my 3rd Cousin with 0.41% DNA shared

He has 0% West Asian or Central/South Asian. I have 0% European. How is this even possible? Is it via the Unassigned? I feel like if we really shared a second great-grandparent it would obviously be reflected in our ethnicity composition.

Oh my! How interesting!
I think maybe it's the Unassigned :chin:

I mean that’s really the only possible thing I can see. But I really thought if we shared a great-great grandparent then it would be more obvious

Yes, 2 Anglo-American females with 0.2% and 0.5% broadly west Asian DNA respectively. Pretty sure that’s our solution

I guess he has very faint west Asian that was not picked up then. :thumb001: I get a few weird matches like this too, but usually not in the 3rd cousin range.

A big chunk of the SNPs that commercial companies genotype are ancestral very old (8000 years+) ENF SNPs that all Eurasians with ENF farmer ancestry share. Most likely you are sharing 8000 year old + segment of DNA with him. Same is true with some of your other N. European matches.

Thats easy. I am Levantine and I got alot of Swedish matches theybare 100% european and I dont score any ahare region with them but In Gedmatch my scandinavian are high so maybe some companies dont show the low precantage they just stick them to the clostest results of yours.

We had a few other mutual european relatives who had a tiny bit of West Asian, so I think that's how we're related

i also have such relatives. maybe the 23andme regional division is not very accurate. i don't know. for a 3rd cousin you should share more than a 8000 years old ancestor
