A photograph uploaded on Facebook (http://www.ibtimes.com/topics/detail/372/facebook/) of a white South Africa (http://www.ibtimes.com/topics/detail/511/south-africa/)n man posing like a hunter near an apparently lifeless body of a black child has created a furore as South Africa (http://www.ibtimes.com/topics/detail/511/south-africa/)n police try track him down.

The man has a Facebook user profile with the name "Eugene Terrorblanche," an apparent play on the name of Eugene Terreblanche, an extremist Afrikaner leader murdered last year, and has 590 "friends" as of Saturday. Authorities are yet to confirm the authenticity of the undated picture and have not ruled out the possibility of photograph manipulation.

According to the South Africa Sunday Times, which first report (http://www.timeslive.co.za/local/2011/08/28/wanted-facebook-racist)ed the story, the search is now on for the person or persons responsible for the picture, for whoever created the user profile and for those who have seen the photograph but failed to report it.

Surprisingly, the photo was uploaded June 24, 2010, but went little noticed until now. It took more than a year to be spotted by authorities as none who saw the picture reported it or posted a comment condemning it.

Regardless of whether the picture is fake, "everyone party to the posting" and those who have viewed the image are under a potential prosecution threat, authorities said.

Human rights groups have expressed their concern for the child in the picture who could have been wounded or dead.

The director of Women + Men Against Child Abuse, Miranda Jordan, said she found it "incredibly disturbing" not knowing the child's fate.

"I couldn't believe what I was seeing ... this is sickening and disgusting. Is this child hurt? Is he dead? Who would take this kind of picture?" she said. "This hate image incites racism that almost all South Africans have fought so hard to eradicate."

Minister of Police Nathi Mthethwa's spokesman, Zweli Mnisi, said the minister has ordered an "immediate investigation" and called on the man in the picture - or anyone who recognized him - to come forward to assist in the probe.

Picture is obviously photoshopped. If the guy put up the photo to be funny, then I don't see anything wrong with it from a legal perspective. But I can understand authorities looking into it to make sure what's going on.

This is wrong very wrong, it has to also be taken into consideration that SA whites are suffering more, no matter how wrong they did in the past they have changed but now many Africans are nailing them back.

I just want to clarify my post. I know it's probably illegal to say anything racist in South Africa. But morally, I believe in total freedom of speech/expression, unless it's slander or threatening.

Actually, my humor is as sick as yours, Sahson....unless the victim of the humor is a child. This picture, while probably posed, looks too frightening, and frankly, plays on some of the deeper hatreds I have witnessed on here by some posters.

That is why the pic is so upsetting.

As tasteless and insensitive as this picture is, I'm also concerned with the fact that people viewing this picture or commenting on it may be subject to prosecution. In this sense, the picture not only violates people's sensibilities, but it may in fact endanger people's civil liberties too. :(

http://www.noticias24.com/actualidad/noticia/307477/la-foto-del-racista-sudafricano-en-facebook-tiene-tres-anos-de-antiguedad/

Im surprised that this article made its way all the way to Venezuela.

No wonder why europeans dont have any future. There´s a big drama in South Africa with whites being discriminated, killed, assaulted and forced to leave the country but our main preocupation is a 3 years old pic where a white dude paid a black kid to make a bad joke

Great! Preservation is on the right way! But not ours though :thumb001:

My abject horror and disgust would not change, no matter how this photo was posed....it could have been a black man and a white child and my disgust would remain as potent as it is to the pic in this post.

I think you are reading too much into some of the replies, here. Pictures like this, whether meant as a joke or not....are not fucking funny....AT ALL.

Any parent alive (and I am a parent) who is worth a damn is not going to take kindly at these kinds of pranks made as a means to find humor....not when the joke is about the death of a child. Because somewhere inside us all, we are thinking: It could be my child in that pic you all are laughing at.... Understand now?

Why would it be any less funny if the child were white? A child is an innocent being, undeserving of the lot many of them are dealt in this life.....as evidenced by the photograph of that child and the vulture.

As disturbing as the photo is I find two things strange, first that one could be persecuted for simply viewing the pic if this is true then anyone who clicked on this thread is in danger no? Second I don't recall much fuss in the media about Afrikaner farmer's, women, and children who were actually murdered, raped, and dismembered.

I can take the jokes when they are just spoken. Photos are something different altogether....and while I believe the initial photo which was the topic of the OP is likely doctored, the one you posted with the little boy and the vulture is real. I've seen that photo before....and I think that child (and you can see the poor thing's ribs sticking way out) might be dying, or starving at the very least. So, no, I cannot find ANY humor in that, because that kid IS suffering in reality.

You might be surprised, for I have a very sick sense of humor....but I can't laugh at dying kids in photos. This is where my *taboo zone* is, as it were.

Although....I've told my share of dead baby jokes. Verbally, only. Knowing full well they are absolutely as BASE as you can get.

The joke isnt aimed at the kid so much, its a reaction of mass produced PC sobbing and hysteria at certain media images that we are meant to break down and cry at en masse when ever big brother see's fit to put them on the tv.

Its more of a confirmation that the man on the street is alive and kicking....and kicking back with his sick humour.

The photo is either posed or photoshopped. I'm not surprised that the South African government would give priority to this non-crime over actual crimes committed against whites in South Africa, it is weird that there is so much outrage against it at a European preservation forum. If you want to be morally outraged get mad about the real genocide against Boers in South Africa or the real black-on-white crimes against whites in England during the recent riots or the real crimes against white Americans this past summer by black flash mobs.
