yeah darker toned indians are definitely treated worse. and in movies they usually get villain or comedy roles as well rather than as a protagonist but its definitely improving. especially in southern india where there are a decent number of darker leads these days.

Basically caste system was originally based on occupation. Many still uphold their traditional roles according to castes especially in rural areas, but its definitely improved in urban areas. many lower castes are doing fairly well in urban areas.

Here's the income breakdown by caste. SC is dalits/untouchables. ST are tribals who re not really part of the caste system. they're just tribal groups who are different from untouchables.

I could tell he was a Tamil. I've known a couple, that are like that, looks-wise.
The smaller eyes, the bigger nose and thinner lips are most indicative, imo.
