Italy rugby players always show some very northern euro looking individuals, guess this is because rugby in Italy is popular in the north?

I watch rugby a lot and a lot of Italian rugby players look northern, I always remember the Bergamasco brothers, Ghiraldini as well.

Rugby is popular in northern Italy rather than southern Italy, and it shows!

Agree with Davystayn, out of those listed i counted only 20 who look properly Mediterranean, would be interesting to compare them with the French rugby players, i have a feeling the French players are darker haired but still mainly Alpine-CM in type.

The only parts of southern Italy where rugby is popular are Abruzzo and to a lesser extent Campania.

Here's a non-exhaustive list of southern Italian rugby players, past and present:

Many are from northern Italy but there are also central and southern Italians.

I made a mistake here this player is only half sicilian, his mother is german. Sorry for that.

Lo Cicero is fully sicilian

Interesting, I decided to count how many "Mediterranean spectrum" people as well after seeing you did, and got 22, so pretty dang close.

1st in 3rd row is metrically Nordid(only metrically).

2nd in 5th row is metrically Polack.

I wouldn't bat an eye if you told me 1 and 3 in row 10 were Russian.

Because a gracile med couldn't play rugby

Isn't Catania relatively successful in Italy's domestic championship?

It is so great that Italy likes rugby, such a good spirit in the game.

Yes, but historically the areas in and around L'Aquila and Benevento have produced more players and have a bigger rugby culture IIRC.

Rugby is a safe space for Cro-magnon types.

Rugby is particularly popular in southern France, basque country in both France and Spain. There are always more French players from the south, particularly the south west, than the north of France.

North Italy is more northern than southwest France
