Not completely. There are people in Sweden, Germany, etc (family history only from there as well) with naturally Wavy and Curly hair, it isn't that simple to generalize it to a Med thing or Northern, central euro thing. Many people in the Med have straight hair too.

From an evolutionary standpoint the theory is that the tightly curled hair evolved to protect from UV rays and to help in cooling the head. While we often associate Blacks with thicker hair, they actually have less hair follicles on average and it is the curliness that gives the effect. Since the follicles aren't so dense it allows for greater airflow, providing a cooling effect.


IMO. Because it is mostly accepted that the human races originated in Africa, we all, irrespective of our more recent places of origin bear certain characteristics with those earlier ancestors. Hair characteristics reflect ancestry because they are a genetically inherited trait — which is from whom is hard to learn. Beaded hair as far as I know is not a characteristic from any particular location or for any specific genetic gain. I have origins from Neanderthals and from Denisovans populations from when those people evolved I'm not sure.

Why are Mediterranean people (Italians, Portuguese, Spaniards, Greeks) considered white? Aren’t they technically Latino?

We’re considered white along with Middle Eastern, North African and Jewish Mediterraneans on the census as a formality and ‘cause droves of us look white, more with Med Europeans and Ashkenazim. Plus Greeks don’t have a Latin language and by Latino you’re thinking South Americans with darker traits generally. However about half of South Italy, Greece, Portugal, Andalusia and Ashkenazi’s look Latino/Arab with olive skin, so we’re not fully white groups either.
