IMHO they are very diversified, also regionally.

Bulgarians are significantly darker than Poles or Czechs.
Bulgarians and Serbs are pretty much the same in terms of pigmentation and even professional surveys fail to clearly show who's lighter (difference is pretty small and must be in standard deviation range).

If you mean Bulgarians on our own and not in comparison to other groups, I can only say we are diverse - both in terms of pigmentation and phenotype.

Not all of these people self-identify as Bulgarian, to begin with. I know some who do and others who don't. The latter are more common.
Some are pretty light, others much darker.
The lightest Bulgarians live in either 1)Northeastern Bulgaria - Dobrudja region, Varna, etc. or 2)Rhodope mountains - Smolyan, etc.
Not just according to me but local studies, too.

1) Never said exceptions don't exist.
2) Some people treat everything that shifts southwards their look as exotic. I wouldn't pay much attention to such claims.
