Sent my parents' samples off on April 30th. It arrived to the USA in NY on May 18th. By May 22nd it got to a distribution center in North Houston, TX. The lab address is also located in Houston, TX so I thought it would get there pretty soon. But as of today on May 25th, the samples are back in NY. Is this normal? What's going on? Did the package bounce?

Weird but I wouldn't panic yet. Samples didn't fail, for that they would need to start processing in the lab. Maybe it is some kind of wrong update, idk why would they go back in NY, makes no sense.

That is so annoying, I have seen that sort of thing in tracking my packages in the past. I have no idea why that happens (bouncing back a step), but in my case it usually ends up working out.

Good luck.

You can always send inquiry to myheritage customer support and ask about your samples status.
PS you sent back as package? I send one to myheritage last monday, but as letter (big mistake), so it has no tracking and I have no idea will it pass the customs at all xD

Indeed, it seems the samples didn't even get to the lab:

I sent the samples in a bubble wrap envelope, I think it's classified as letter. At the post office I asked if it's safe to send during the pandemic, and the post clerk advised me to send it as registered mail, so it gets tracked and thus maybe easier to find if it got lost. This optional feature was an additional 1€ in postage.

Probably they are invalid but I'm not sure.

They didn't arrive to the lab yet so they can't be invalid.

So you sent same as me but you added tracking feature, smart move/good advice :)

Had the same thing happen with my mom's samples. The package was initially misrouted by the distribution center. Mine eventually arrived after a little over a month. If the status doesn't change soon, I would contact them.

That sucks. I suggest you wait until Friday and if nothing changes request replacement kits, at least FTDNA sent me one when the original had gotten lost in the mail.

I doubt it's lost. She should be patient, as shipping is usually longest part of DNA testing. Would be stupid to ask replacement kits prematurely and that go in same long propcedure again.

Thankfully, the package did arrive back to Houston, TX on May 28th.
But since then, the facilities there kinda seem to be playing hot potato with it.
Not sure what to think.

Glad for you. I think soon they'll batch your samples and start analyzing them.

You got the worst luck possible. Firstly corona and if that wasn't enough, riots erupted just when your package is travelling through the country.
