So I met an East Timorese or also known as Timor Leste girl on YouTube, she has two Timorese parents from Timor Leste and she showed me her Ancestry results which was very fascinating.

Why is she so heavily mixed? Even a significant amount of African! Also 39% European which is almost half. My gosh, she is barely Asian!

That is because both Eastern Indonesia and Timor Leste are heavily admixed with not just Papuan and Aboriginal blood, but also Dutch and Portuguese colonizer blood.Eastern Indonesia and Timor Leste was settled by Australian Aboriginals or a related population first, then Papuans, and then the "Asian" Austronesians were last. This also doesnt include the ancient trade networks that bought Arab,Indian, and Chinese blood to The Moluccas and Timor Leste area. Then there was also some of the Portgueuse African soldiers brought to Timor Leste as well.Timor Leste and Eastern Indonesia is a melting pot.

East Timor was a Portuguese colony from the 16th century till 1975 (mostly a trading outpost). Still interesting because I don't believe many Portuguese settle there.

You didn't have to give me a thumbs down because I don't have to be aware of all of that. This isn't fucking Reddit. Last time I checked East Timor was a Southeast Asian country, so I thought they were just some kind of SE Asians.

But you also could have used some some common sense such as looking at how close Timor Leste is to Papua New Guinea and Australia. Its just a thumbs down,no need to trip over it.

What's interesting to me is that she has more Melanesian blood than Austronesian blood, and also the Portuguese brought African admixture. She said that it's not uncommon in East Timor

The reason these small islands ruled by Iberia such as Guam and Timor Leste have much more Spanish and Portuguese admixture on average than Filipinos is because Timor and Guam were much smaller islands with lower populations. So a few Europeans would have gone a long way in mixing, unlike the Phillipines. In East Timor Portuguese is still spoken and a official language, and in Guam there vocabulary is heavily influenced by Spanish in comparison to Tagalog.

All Australoids whether Melanesian,Aboriginal,Negritos,or Veddoids do indeed cluster closest to East Eurasians.Whether this is because of long periods of interactions or an actual common Ancestry is still up for debate.I have seen Australoids included in Eastern non Africans before.

Portuguese\Timorense mestiços do exist but they are a minority, usually found among the educated upper class. Most prominent presidents of Timor-Leste have always been half-Portuguese.

For reference, this is what people from Timor usually look like (very similar to Indonesians):

Timorese are more diverse than that picture man. Some tribes are more Austronesian like your picture, while others especially in the mountains are more Papuan. They even still have Papuan languages in Timor Leste. This is the same situation as in Eastern Indonesia, where people from Mountainous areas and isolated islands like Kei,Aru,or Seram are almost pure Melanesian while those from the cities like Ambon have alot more Indonesian transmigrations from the much more populated islands of Java and Bali. Btw,I went to Indonesia just last year to Jakarta,Makassar City, and also Ambon in the East. The local people in each island look different.Especially when you go to the far East and the rural areas. There isnt a magical line between "Papua" and then "Indonesia",the entire Eastern part of the country is a blending point

https://imgur.com/a/XjwR8jU

"Indonesians" themselves dont even look similar to each other.People from Papua or Sumba definitely dont resemble people from Java or Bali or Sumatra on average, the people who are wrongly said to represent "all Indonesians".They just make up far more of the population.

Also look at the original DNA results, she actually has more Melanesian ancestry than Austronesian ancestry!

Also about your picture to represent "Timorese",I showed it to a West Papuan,a Moluccan, and the original Timorese girl in question and all of them said they are atypical. Most Timorese are more Melanesian looking than that,or more admixed looking, and on average are quite distinct looking from the mainstream Javanese "Indonesian" look.

Why the upper class?

Why the upper class?

Timor Leste is very similar to all the other Iberian ruled places where they made the Iberians at the top of the social ladder and the locals at the bottom, and then put the Mestizos somewhere in between. So even today the upper class and Politicians in these former Iberian areas Mestizos make up a disproportionate percentage of important positions.

I don't how this system works in the 21st century. It seems very dysfunctional. Is'nt there free education for everyone nowadays?
