French Canadians came mostly from Normandy, Paris, Poitou, and surrounding areas (when researching my French Canadian ancestors most came from Normandy, Paris, and Poitou). https://www.erudit.org/fr/revues/cgq/1972-v16-n38-cgq2612/021058ar.pdf http://www.axl.cefan.ulaval.ca/francophonie/Nlle-France-prov-peuplement.htm
They match with French average (central French), so I'd assume they descend mostly from the Gauls, since none of these areas were Aquitanian in Antiquity. However, "The whole Western France, except northern fringes, show an Iberian lean. As you've said, as north as La Rochelle and even more northern people are closer to Iberians than to NW Euros." This could represent more Aquitanian ancestry throughout Western France and in French Canadians.
So my question is, do French Canadians (also Western French) descend from Gauls or Aquitanians?
