Is surf popular in Portugal? Here not the most known sport/hobby but with the time starts to be a relatively followed activity.

Yes, we have many surf beaches, especially in central and south. I love to surf. We also have the largest known wave in Nazare:

It's popular here since the early 1990's some local surfers have been doing well in international events.

Actually in the south (especially Algarve) there aren't many surf beaches because the sea is too flat except the far western coast.
Most of the surf spots are from the Lisbon region to the north (mostly the coast of central Portugal).

Good point, there isn't that many... I have never been to other beaches past Alentejo. I surf at Costa Vicentina but that is rlly the only one I know. Other beaches that aren't even surfing beaches... during certain times get huge and dangerous waves too.

It's really surprising how frequently Portuguese surfers are met. But on the other hand, if you see continental Portugal's coastlines and the fact that the Atlantic Ocean is wetting the shores, this shouldn't be a surprise.

Gui's pics aren't great, you might get a different impression from these:

Many people see stuff on YouTube and it looks 'easy' but god it isnt. I have been going in the water for 20 years, finally found my limit with a 16 second period 14ft, winter time Cornwall, seriously scary hold downs.

God knows how locals in Portugal handle it when it is huge

Oh... trust me I can't even count how many times I've almost died from getting stuck under a wave. It is terrifying but that is part of the sport :)

I remember seeing the video of a guy from Devon breaking his back at Nazare. You can see him shoot out at 32seconds https://youtu.be/T3PWH5r64ao

Yes it is part of the sport but I found my limit, my balls just arent big enough! Fair play to you!

Nazare looks like the Mecca of surf, I am glad that place is in my neighbor country since I appreciate them.

They seem to have a rough look to their faces.

Pires - Atlanto-Med
Morais - Atlantid
Vau - Atlanto-Med with a quite CM browridge
Botelho - Atlantid/CM (Phalian subtype) mix (woman he is with on first pic also qualifies as Atlantid)
Fernandes - Atlantid/Berid combo
Ferreira - somewhere between Atlanto and East Med looks, transitional type to my eyes
Fonseca - Sub-Nordid and Baskid
Ribeiro - again between Atlantic and East Med
