honestly i think i have some more recent greek ancestry, after ottoman expansion greek and albanians immigrated in south italy as refugees and they lived isolated for some time, the greeks now are basically south italian while the albanians still exist and they preserved their own language.

Most likely came with steppe europeans, if northern europeans get it as south europeans. If its just south europeans, i guess its through ancient levantine ancstors

on gedmatch i have supposedly cousins from northern europe /scotland who do not appear to have south italian admixture, i have actually spent a great deal of time trying to detect it and i wondered if i should bother them asking if they have italian ancestry. i think if they do not have italian it could be noble ancestry as nobles mixed with each other all over europe.
i also have matches with a family from the balkans who seem to have italkim (italian jewish) admixture.

Don't take Gedmatch too seriously if you want my opinion, the matches are quite often false positives. On the other hand it's not impossible to have at least some North European relatives given Italy's location and history.

thank you, i have always had the suspicion about its validity with distant relatives matches , i think most of my matches could be "false positives" (especially under 20 cM) but the gedmatch crowd almost convinced me of it's reliability.
