Do you look like your parents?

Simple question. I've always noticed that most Bangladeshi/Sylheti families are very diverse. The children can look quite fair or dark, have a broad range of facial features and vary in build too.

This is quite different to my own family, and something I just noted as a child.

Is this variability true of other desis?

I'm guessing it's a consequence of intermixing with various races, in the past. And, as we didn't mix heavily, there's a firm likeness that flows down the generations.

I look like a more Caucasian version of my dad, with my mum's nose and no obvious SSA features. My brother looks less similar to either parent

Sylheti family I know is extremelly dark, significantly more so than Gypsies. None of them is even remotely light. But they vary in facial features a lot. Woman looks almost Burmese/SE Asian, children look south Indian with broad/fluffy features (very dark indo-brachid) and father looks like Indo-melanid type with refined features.

Nah not at all, but I have some traits after them.
After my dad I have prominent chin, I'm tall, can tan well, good upper body.
Afrer my mom I have a bit wider jaw and her nose.
Both have pretty good genetics in terms of health (No diseases no alergies) and they both look younger they are.

What about grandparents?

Looking over some of the submissions on the taxonomy forum, I think there are a few cases of prominent Indians/desis/Parsis with dramatic variation within the two generations (parents and siblings).

I should mention that, I didn't get my father's eyes or his propensity to burn in the sun (he goes lobster red, if he gets in the Bangladeshi sun for any length of time, I tan deeply, then begin to burn after a couple of hours).

I'm also half a foot shorter, probably thanks to my mum.

No not really I stick out from both my parents although I think I'm closer to my mother appearance. Also came out "lighter" then both my parents which is common among multi-generational mestizos for stuff like that to happen.

I look likw both of my parents, like a good 50/50. I have my dads masculine features combined with my moms femenine features. I think I look more like my dad, but everyone tells me I look like my mom, even on this forum. People say I have my moms eyes, eyebrows and mouth. My eye shape is just like my dads but its influenced by moms eye shape as well but like the look, color and vibe is more like my moms apperantley. Body wise I am almost identical to my dad.

I definitely look like both, and have a mix of both's personalities (despite my dad passing at 9 and not really seeing him since he left to work in Italy when I was 7).

I also resemble by paternal grandfather and I expect to resemble him a bit more once I hit 50.

Yes I think I resemble both parents. I recently saw a school picture of my dad from the 70s and I didn't realise just how much I resembled him when I was a little girl (a feminised version of course). My son resembles his grandad too which I find adorable.But as an adult I resemble my mom a bit more.

I look mostly like my father and resemble my maternal grandmother, for a little while I pondered if my grandma was actually my mother, but nope, I dna tested her, I'm approx 27% similar with her tho.

My father is a 50-50 with his parents, and my grandma looks like a clone of her mother, which in turn looked a clone of her mother, I've seen old pics, those genes are strong there in my grandma's case.

Mix of them. My mom is Nordid Baltid mix. There is some Baltid on me too, but less.
The interesting issue point still is that I have gotten my granny's eyes. So looks like that some features can jump over one generations.
