Haha for all I know he's just greek, he's from a village called vytina in central peloponnesus. I'm pretty sure he has no Eastern admixture (like turkish, etc.) so that's probably why he's not "dark"

it's interesting that everyone's saying he looks slavic, I've always thought he looks more german

He looks very PanEuropean and passable everywhere in Europe.
But my first guess would be "Polish".
