Jersey Shore is trasmitted in Italy on MTV channel. Thank to God, I can't see MTV on my TV so I have ignored the reality of "Jersey Shore" for years, until 2 days ago, when I went to my boyfriend's house and he HAS MTV.
I watched only the advertisement of the program and it was enough. I was going to vomit...

The protagonists pretend to be Italian and rapresent Italian-Americans. But let's see a bit who they are...

For what it's worth, a lot of New York area Italian-Americans are pissed off about the show too (including actress Alyssa Milano). Ironically, both racial minorities AND white (U.S.) southerners have put up with media caricature for decades. While a lot of people are stupid enough to believe any media image they see on TV, there's still a lot who are going to be skeptical of any portrail of a group being this way or that way (especially unflattering stereotypes).

The Italian reaction

Producers of Jersey Shore were not enough satisfied probably and decided to shot the 4th serie in Italy, exactly in Florence.
Well, I know Florentines enough to bet that they will kick these moroons in the ass before they'll can put a foot out of the airplain. Meanwhile the first effects of true Italian culture start to appear.

The political reaction
Democratic mayor of Florence has meanwhile dictated some behavours that the cast will have to observe to shot the episodes in Italy.
The most discussed has been prohibition for the guys of Jersey Shore to be shot while drinking alchoolics in bars and public places.
American newspapers have criticized the decision of the mayor and condemned it as "too streight"!
So they always say that we Italians are too easy-going and then they criticize us at our home???? :mad:
Renzi's idea was just to promote a good imagine of the city, desiring to attract tourists interested in Florentine culture, history and art, but not those who just want to come here for drinking in our locals.

Renzi, I congratulate with you. You are one of the few serious politicians of Italy!

I have forced myself to watch an episode of this sh** coz I wanted to understand if characterially those characters can be saved or not...

Well... In Italy we had a similar reality show called "Tamarreide" (how to translate the title? A sort of "Metrosexualeid"). I must admit that Italians of Tamarreide were even more interesting as characters than those of Jersey Shore and we are speaking of the most rubbish program ever sent on public TV since Big Brother!!! :eek: But Jesery Shore is even worse!

Jersey Shore guys are just acting, they always follow in improbable and odd sotuations, like a guy who goes to a disco in Florence and meets the only American girl in the whole borough, then discovers that she's got a TWIN, then that this twin is virgin, then that this supposed virgin is bisexual and THEN that she makes it out with males and females without problems and in an extremely self-confident manner.
I mean... come on! Make it realistic!

I switched off the TV after the bisexual kiss twice perplexed...
Now I am sure that I WOULD NEVER LIVE IN THE USA.

She is full Sicilian. I think she might just be generically eastern Med region.

Either way Vinny looks way off. He has no eyelid (an Asiatic feature), Afro-textured hair, and is a strange pigmentation for a southern Italian.
