Things are turning for the better there now but my fiancee at first really couldn't understand my fascination with Japan and I don't blame her.

Japanese assaults on The Phillipines, British Possessions (Malay) and Dutch Indonesia to the south were facilitated by France, under Marshall Petain (Catholic allies of Hitler), who literally opened the French-controlled Vietnam to Japan, enabling Japan to set up military bases there.
