There are cities named Brest in Poland and France. Two villages in Macedonia are also named Brest. What's so special about the name that totally unrelated places have villages/cities named Brest?

The Slavonic ones are related. Probably something to do with birch trees (beryoza, bereza) 'beresta' is birch bark in Russki.

The French one is just coincidence. Something to do with Celtic 'bre' or 'hill'.....

According to the Brest, Belarus article, these are some of the possible etymologies for the name:

"the name of the city comes from the Slavic root beresta meaning birch, bark,
the name of the city comes from the Slavic root berest meaning elm,
the name of the city comes from the Lithuanian word brasta meaning ford."

Not sure how that would be relevant to France, though.

There is an East Breast in Inverclyde, Scotland. In Ireland, a Hillside of the Breast, County Fermanagh or Letterbreen (Leitir Bhruin), and a Mount Breast in Queensland, Australia. These all, I think, describe a shape.
