The latest update up top moving down through the updates back to 4 years ago and my first results.

Personally, Ancestry DNA's results don't gel with our family history as we know it. There is one grandfather who was from Donegal but a McBride so not a true Irishman. The rest are English or from what is now part of northern France. Bizarre how the Alsace-Lorraine seems to feature in some peoples western Europeans verbal geneology. It feels like the Euro version of the USA's "Cherokee".

I think liberal political correctness has some affect on these commercial tests. That is why I had to analyze my raw dna file which tends to give different results from AncestryDNA.

Maybe but I think it is not really bad. My russian is now precise I should be technically 7% because my great great grandfather was a russian and that means 7% and Im 5% russia and 2% baltic quiete precise and cool. Before I was 30% eastern europe and russia, but that included the balkan, now balkan is a own category + there is also a seperate category for greek and albanian before that was all the same.

Still no Southern European somehow. Gained about 11% extra British isles. Seems some of my previous germanic europe was reassigned there.

Also I'm not aware how reliable the Scottish/Irish distinction is, do they seem accurate for those of you who are supposedly full Scottish or Irish?

There is going to be some inflated Scots in a lot of people's results as they have some obvious outliers in the Scottish cluster. I think it should be fairly accurate for people from the Isles but some people might get unexpected Scottish.

Yours seems accurate but I'm skeptical about mine unless *gasp* the modern Irish are god forbid celto-germanic rather than just 'celtic'

My results are finally in, I am 50% Irish 50% Scottish on paper, so slightly higher Irish than I would have expected, but at least it's an improvement on LivingDNA which has me at 80% Irish I suppose. Still disappointed with my Scottish communities, I should have a couple from the Highlands as well as SW Scotland, but overall the results are not perfect but not far wrong.

Considering there's no Sephardic option, it's not too bad, I guess. Getting a bit better.

It was 99% European Jewish, 1% Anatolian.

Now it's 97% European Jewish, 2% Middle Eastern, 1% France.

Really, I should get 94% European Jewish, 6% Middle Eastern.

European Jewish has six sub-categories, all Ashkenazi: three are for Litvaks, and I am not Litvak. The other three (Germany/Low Countries, Visograd Group, West Ukraine/Moldova) all apply to me, but I only get West Ukraine, Moldova, and Eastern Romania. 50% of my ancestry comes from Western Ukraine, so, not bad, I suppose.

Eastern Europe in ancestryDNA needs some work. Look for example genetic community of Bosnia, Croatia and NE Italy - first two have nothing in common with the third.

Thanks for the insights. I have always said I am Mixed. That is my handle on Anthrogenica. You have to remember my results have changed A LOT through the years. My Y Chromosome is YP1337. That is Slavic.

Genetically 50% Samos (Island) 50% Peloponnese (Mainland). Most likely from Roma migrations. Looks like it's from my dad's side (Samos). Would love to learn the details - but we don't know anything!

My family has the same issues with these dna tests. I have centuries of French surnames in my family tree yet my family hardly scores French on AncestryDNA..In fact I didn’t receive any and my sisters and mother only received 2%.

23andme has been more accurate in my case.

Genetically 50% Samos (Island) 50% Peloponnese (Mainland). Most likely from Roma migrations. Looks like it's from my dad's side (Samos). Would love to learn the details - but we don't know anything!

The ancestry estimate kinda sucks. I may as well be some purely Anglo-Germanic type going by these results as well.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has a problem with the results so I know I'm not going crazy. I think my results have me as too celtic. This sh*t is driving me crazy man. Most reputable third party stuff , analyzing my raw file, e.g. Eurogenes K13, Eurogenes K15, G25, UCLA analysis, Stanford university Analysis, Tolan and Lukasz analysis of k36 components have me as either British or Dutch but this crazy ancestryDNA wants to me I'm an Anglo-Celt or something.

My family has the same issues with these dna tests. I have centuries of French surnames in my family tree yet my family hardly scores French on AncestryDNA..In fact I didn’t receive any and my sisters and mother only received 2%.

23andme has been more accurate in my case.

I think I might trust Jews more than Mormons. AncestryDNA is run by Mormons from Utah. I'm from New York so Mormons from Utah might as well be from Bumfuck Egypt as far as I'm concerned. I don't understand why there are a million different calculators and updates to AncestryDNA then G25 on top of all that.

I'm keeping an open mind that I could be Scottish but lowland Scots are Germanic and very close to the English genetically anyway. I don't think I'm Irish though.

On paper I am about 2/3 English so my English seems a bit low. My communities are spot-on, my English is all southern. In the little villages my ancestors are from there are still street names and farms with my ancestors’ surnames.

My Scottish seems too high from what I know on paper, and my Irish probably too low.

My grandad was Irish. One of his grandparents was perhaps northern Irish, which could have a Scottish link, but that’s only my gg-grandmother. I have another gggg-grandmother who’s Scottish, but that’s it for known Scottish in my tree. I have an additional ggg-grandmother who was Irish.

I have a ggg-grandfather who was Welsh (my male line) and a ggg-grandfather who was German. Both of these could be about 3% so may explain the Welsh and Germanic Europe scores.

I notice lots of English and Scottish score a small amount of Norwegian. I don’t have any known ancestors.

Maybe a tad more accurate. At least, there is some sign of Italian, although it's still far from a quarter (even including the Balkans, which is a stretch). Sweden and Balkans make no sense whatsoever. I guess they're going the Vahaduo route and using the Balkans to cover both Slavic and Mediterranean genes.

looks good. pretty much the same for me but instead of southern/eastern broad category, they changed it to just southern india. Its accurate. Dont get the point of highlighting bangladesh and part of northeast india though lol. They're quite different from south indians given their east asian mix.

LOL why northern bit of bhutan specifically? makes no sense. they might as well highlight entire northern himalayan stretch, western china overall as well under northern china (except for xinjiang given the uygurs).

Dude you said you know you are irish and that even your surname is irish. Why do you now you say you are not irish? You are probably a mix of irish and english. You know that though.

That's dumb. My partner's went up 9% to 42%. Overall components are pretty accurate actually, all things considered. Bummer it wasn't the same for you.

They are getting much better.

Well my result are an improvement with a much more realistic East Euro % but I find it hard to believe that I would not have any % of Balkan or Southern European although it may not be a lot still suprising it can be totally missed.
23and me allocates me 8.5% southern European which is partly Balkan partly southern Euro.
I think realistic amount Balkan/Sth Euro for me would be least between 3% to 5%.

Weirdly for me they actually increased the French a lot this update, with me having 1/8 or so by knowledge and scoring 10%, and you and Ryo having over 1/4 and scoring none at all this time round.

I'm sure they would've noticed this error before they released the update. One thing they've done is made the 'France' bubble cover only a tiny portion of the country which i'm guessing is to cover up the miscalculations

IMO it’s inaccurate for me.

I have no known Scandinavian ancestry. It doesn’t pick up on any French ancestry despite me having known French Canadian ancestors. It barely picks up on any Eastern European ancestry despite known Polish ancestors. The Irish seems accurate, but the English seems to high. 102150102151

If your French ancestry is from the north (NW in particular, Norman or Breton) than it may be hidden under British, because genetically some nw french are very british like and hard to distinguish from other northwest europeans.

If your ancestry is for example south French and Ancestry failed to pick it up, than I have no idea/explanation.

It looks like Denmark has been moved to the Sweden category, which is definitely more reasonable than England, Wales, & NW Europe.

I agree. But I don't think they can even tell between Norway and Sweden. People seem to get both, regardless of which country they come from.

What confuses me is the 1% English. Ive never had it before so i guess somethings off with this new update? Im only aware of Russians and Belarusians in my family tree. What do you guys think?

If your French ancestry is from the north (NW in particular, Norman or Breton) than it may be hidden under British, because genetically some nw french are very british like and hard to distinguish from other northwest europeans.

If your ancestry is for example south French and Ancestry failed to pick it up, than I have no idea/explanation.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Most of my recent French ancestors are from Brittany, Normandy, Picardy, and so on.

Hrvoje gets only Swedish though. Must be misinterpreted German in his case as there is no Swedish ancestry in Croatia/Slovenia whatsoever.

I have Southern French ancestry and I still believe they somehow just never "dug it out" from the English percentage.

But south French and English are not similar at all. Your 23andme shows Ille de France as your main (only?) French region, that's north.

I'm certain AncestryDNA is full of shit. It has me as Anglo-Celtic mostly when my Eurogenes k36 nmonte breakdown is mostly Germanic :

They need to split France up and have Brittany as it's own area also South France. If you look at the Irish and Scottish components they both are part of Brittany.

It does show how bizarre these clusters are when Brittany gets more Scottish than the Irish and also more Irish than the Scots. Having your own region makes a big difference.

You are not "mostly Germanic" by any stretch of imagination. Accept already you are white American of mixed NW Euro stock and move on. With that 1% SSA xD

Absolutely England and South France are discernable, which is why I'm confused as to why it never shows and I'm left throwing guesses. No it's not the only region and yes it is certain and is represented by Iberians on most other tests. Going into the source code shows I actually have more IBD matches with Aquitania than Paris yet it still shows Paris as first, so I don't take it seriously. I have paper trail ancestry from Aquitaine.

You might have just randomly inherited less from your French ancestry, same deal for Raedwald and Celestialsayer. If you had a fully French parent that wouldn't happen.

Where in England ye fae? The average score for England has Scots in it. So probably some older connection.
