From my paper trail it seems to me 23andme is the most accurate in my case and myheritage the least. The thing is I have a bunch of dead ends at 5th great grandparents and a lot of my ancestors came over at 6th-8th great grandparents. But most of the names in my tree are British/Irish and German. It seems in most cases the Germans came over a bit later. But I’m not really sure how to calculate what percentage of either I should be..

Can’t wait for the supposed new update for 23andme. Would love to see some of that broadly decrease!

Interested to know what ancestry is going to calculate :p Anyone have any guesses about what I’ll get?? lol I’m just going to guess they give me very little German.

Yeah, it’s one of the reasons I wanted to do a dna test actually. I started off building my tree and I found a 5th or 6th? Great grandparent listed as mulatto on a census. I was pretty shocked actually. I was told there was Indian on that side of the family, but after researching my moms side and her family Indian stories I didn’t figure I’d find anything. So I never found out what exactly mulatto meant on this census, but usually it mean African mixed with white. When I told this to my family they dismissed the idea that they could possibly have African ancestry. So I got .4% Nigerian on my 23andMe. But I’m also the only person out of all my relatives on that side that gets Nigerian specifically. Some of them get sengambian and they do get Native American. So idk. Was thinking they were possibly melungeoun. Then I recently found a picture of my 5th great grandmother, where I thought this was coming from, and now I’m just not sure anymore!

This few % black african genetic is interesting, maybe you have a black ancestor who lived 200 years ago, so you can use the "n" word.

I think some of these genetic tests tag on minor numbers of such stuff for politically correct purposes because deep down inside liberals hate the idea of genetic/dna testing being link to groups in a way that can be used to differentiate different populations etc... at least it seems that way to me.

From my paper trail it seems to me 23andme is the most accurate in my case and myheritage the least. The thing is I have a bunch of dead ends at 5th great grandparents and a lot of my ancestors came over at 6th-8th great grandparents. But most of the names in my tree are British/Irish and German. It seems in most cases the Germans came over a bit later. But I’m not really sure how to calculate what percentage of either I should be..

Can’t wait for the supposed new update for 23andme. Would love to see some of that broadly decrease!

I see many complete Anglo Germans on that site get a very southern shifted population like that in small numbers, like 5% or less. Same with eastern shifted ones too like East Europe or Baltic. Once you get past 12% it might be worth looking into verifying but keep in mind Myheritage's estimate can be VERY off so even that is a gamble unless it's closer to a quarter maybe. it could still be just balancing out with higher numbers instead.

yes, myheritage is the only place that has given me Jewish. I thought is was strange. my dna relatives results don’t look as odd as mine did to me, but I also did the free upload from 23andme. I’m not sure if that made a difference or not.

Looking at my other relatives communities, what I don’t understand is why my sister gets ‘Ohio River Valley, Indiana, Illinois, & Iowa Settlers, Lower Midwest & Virginia Settlers’ and I only get the ‘Lower Midwest & Virginia Settlers’. Only my paternal grandfather is from Missouri. The rest of my grandparents family have been in Indiana for several generations. Strange.
