Classify and guess ethnicity: Canadian politician

As for ethnicity - He looks mainly British Isles at first glance but there is something about the eyes that makes me think eastern. A Russian or Ukrainian mixed with English &/or Scottish?

He basically looks North Atlantid to me... not sure about the eastern admixture Æmeric mentions. I'd guess him of British origins.

If he's got British ancestry, I would say he would be some sort of North Atlantid/Bell Beaker (hence the slight Dinaric look).

He looks mostly North Atlantid, but there's something very fishy about his nose and eyes. My money says he's at least partly Ashkenazi.

Thank you to all who have answered. :) The gentleman in question is Mr. Michael Ignatieff, Leader of the Opposition who may very well one day be our next Prime Minister. He is a Canadian who has an impressive pedigree:


Ignatieff was born in Toronto, the son of Russian-born Canadian diplomat George Ignatieff and Alison Grant, and the grandson of Count Pavel Ignatiev, Minister of Education to Tsar Nicholas II and one of the few Tsarist ministers to have escaped execution by the Bolsheviks. His Canadian antecedents include his maternal great-grandfather, George Monro Grant, the 19th century principal of Queen's University. His mother's younger brother was the political philosopher George Grant (1918-1988), author of Lament for a Nation [A book every Canadian should read by the way ;)], and his great-aunt was Alice Massey, the wife of Governor General of Canada Vincent Massey. His great-grandfather was Count Nikolay Pavlovich Ignatyev, the Russian Minister of the Interior under Tsar Alexander III. In his book called The Russian Album, Ignatieff explores the importance of memory and obligation to ancestry in the context of his own family's history. Ignatieff is fluent in both English and French, and has a basic knowledge of Russian, the native language of his father.

As far as I know, there is no Ashkenazi blood in him. Mister Ignatieff is Russian Orthodox.

Do I read that right Loyalist that he is fully 1/4 Tatar? That line must have been pretty coarse then, to show up so strongly in so diluted a state... (though looking at those photos his Russian male ancestors were also leaning dinaric).

My first impression from post#1 was Mediterranean with strong dinaricization, though more Armenoid than European-Dinaric.

I think most Russian Tatars are actually mixed, not full blood. So Ignatieff is probably less then 1/4 Tatar.
