I have a keen interest in studying the various spoken forms of the German language. Could we please use this thread to make some comments regarding this?
As a non German-speaker, I would like to start off by asking: Roughly, how many dialects are spoken in Germany? If we could also make some comparisons with Austrian and Swiss German, that would be most helpful.
