All four of these people (a family) look like run-of-the-mill white people (English or Irish). How can this be? Why does the account even contain the words 'Romani' and 'Gypsy'? Perhaps Irish Travellers? :icon_ask:

Every British 'Romanichal' result i've seen looks like a larp with no South Asian at all or South Asian ancestry at the same levels of normal people from their region. Either that or they're confusing Irish travellers with actual gypsies. There were supposedly Roma in the UK that came here hundreds of years ago.

That may be the case. What if the original Gypsy (Balkan-like) stock simply got diluted with time? Until the EU enlargement there were basically no actual Romanian/Bulgarian Gypsies in the UK, so maybe the original group of Gypsies would have 'founded' the community based on a lifestyle and later on low class white criminals and other dregs of society would have joined them thus eventually diluting the Gypsy blood. However that isn't the case with the Iberian Gyspies. They aren't just Spanish or Portuguese people with a shitty lifestyle.

They probably didn't get diluted, these people score literally 0% South Asian and claim gypsy ancestry while Balkan Gypsies will always score at least some + a large amount of MENA too. What you suggested is possible but honestly I think they're just Irish travellers who got confused at some point. Even in photos of 'British Romani' they look like normal British people, excluding of course recent gypsy migrants from Romania (which we have many of now)

Yes Gitanos/Spanish Gypsies are legit. I saw them all the time when I used to live in Spain, they look visibly different from normal Iberians. Autosomally their South Asian score is something along the lines of 20% on average

They are called "gypsies" because of a similar lifestyle, not because they are descended from them.

They have an Irish name (Byrne) so are likely just Travellers, who call themselves Gypsy anyway (or they are Travellers mixed with some Gypsy that had minuscule non-Euro in the first place). Actual British Gypsies will have some noticeable South Asian/Middle Eastern, however small.

Also bear in mind that they might be 1/4, 1/8, 1/16 or less Romany, who likely had very little non-Euro in the first place, and diluted further it can become untraceable.
