I have just found out that my haplogroup is R1a1a1b1a2b, also known as R-CTS 1211. I would like to know where it is likely to have originated from and how it ended up in Malta. I tried researching it but all I could find out was that R1a1 is mostly Slavic.

Yes, your subclade R-CTS1211 is Slavic. Hard to say how it came to Malta, possibilities are endless.

Any idea how old this particular subclade is? This would give me an idea of the general historical timeframe of when it could have come over.

Where did you test? CTS1211 is probably not your terminal SNP, but you have deeper subclade under it.

It was only part of my 23andMe breakdown, so they don't do deep Y DNA testing. Might get one of the in depth Y DNA tests from Family Tree DNA at some point.

I am only R1a1a1b1a...

That is the same as R1a-Z282.

At least for now, until I decide to take a specific test to know more.

Did you try Cladefinder and Morley´s predictor?

Maybe they give you some more information (probably they don´t).

This panel is best and cheapest option for you by far, you'll get your terminal SNP under CTS1211.

Yes, your subclade R-CTS1211 is Slavic.

Could be Slavic. Not has to be, as it was widely spread in deep, deep,
antiquity, with main location among future Balts. It is just Corded.

Apparently R1a is very rare in Malta. I am one of only 3% of Maltese men that have it.

If I use this to get my terminal SNP, how do I find other people with these or close SNPs? Obviously, the terminal SNP information on its own doesn't tell you anything extra unless you have others to compare it with.
