Going off G25 it appears like they're closer to the former

Yes, but only because there aren't academic regional averages for Germany. And Davidski can't use Gedmatch kits in G25.

For example in my K36 PCA there are here.

I think many people gladly will send him his raw files to be included. But he did it just few times as far as I know. Probably his Iraqi samples are private raw files for example.

Have you published the K36 PCA here before?

Yes, but this is first time with new West/South German averages: Franken, Oberschwaben, Oberpfalz, Baiern (don't confuse with whole Bayern, it is only for Ober and Niederbayern, this "i" instead "y" has some historical meaning). Also I divided Nordrhein-Westfalen to Nordrhein and Westfalen-Lippe.

How many samples are those? I can't believe Franken is more northern shifted than Nordrhein and there's such a big difference between southern Bavaria and bordering areas of Austria.

In Franken northern shift is north-eastern, at least partially.

For sure not one for ref.

Franken is not fully north shifted but as Peterski said partially to East German refs too, specifically to Thuringen, but it is better visible in distances and nMonte oracle. Nordrhein shift is proper north.

It is, what I can say. There is some unexplained west shift in Oberbayern... I mediated it by adding Niederbayern but still.
Oberpfalz is shifted east, Oberschwaben to Tirol.

Burgenland is different story there was heavy Bavarian settlement here. Probably Salzburg will be similar to Oberbayern because it was part of Bavaria till early XIX century but I can't find such kits yet:)

I have some from Salzburg & Upper Austria very close to German border.
