I registered GEDMATCH yesterday and looked how it works. I think the calculators calculate the distance between your data and the other members’ data and tries to estimate your ethnicity looking at those distances. My question is how does GEDMATCH create its database? From members’ uploaded data? If this is the case, what if a member lies about his ethnicity? I didn’t take a DNA test yet but I might take it some time. This is why I ask these questions.

Im pretty sure they are based off of academic samples, but I know vahaduo has some some averages from just normal ppl

You are not compared to other users in admixture calculators, each calculator has a fixed set of samples for their references which are pre-selected by their creators according to their own criteria.

Most are academic samples.
