He comes from a family of musicians in a kabul neighbourhood called Kharabat. It's well known for producing classical north Indian influenced afghan folk musicians , and these people came from Kashmir / India . Biggest example would be Ustad Qasim Jo

Hence why you can notice a little north Indian style singing / music in the video above .

ALL of them are mostly Afghan and not South asian. They have roots, but still genetically mostly Afghan.

Qais ulfat( the one with south Asian roots ) sticks out normally on TV , I always wondered why he looked Indian and then did some research about his family . My father told me people used to look down on musicians back in the day especially from kharabat . Btw he's loved and adored by the nation , his voice is truly amazing .
